Yankees’ Aaron Judge to go on injured list with flexor strain, expected to return this season

The New York Yankees received an update on their Captain, who was held out of Saturday’s lineup due to right elbow discomfort.

Manager Aaron Boone revealed that Aaron Judge has a mild flexor strain and will go on the 10-day injured list, though the skipper called the news “relatively good” because Judge’s UCL remains intact, avoiding the worst possible outcome.

Judge suffered the injury while throwing the ball back into the infield in Toronto earlier this week, and he struggled to throw in Friday’s game. While he hoped to avoid the IL, the team opted for caution to prevent further damage.

Judge has already received a PRP injection and is expected to rest for a few days before resuming swinging. Boone is optimistic that the Yankees captain could return after the minimum 10-day stint, initially as a designated hitter before ramping up to outfield duties, depending on how his elbow responds.

With Judge out, Giancarlo Stanton is expected to start taking pregame reps in the outfield this week, potentially filling in while Judge eases back.

As for roster replacements, Triple-A outfielders Everson Pereira and Bryan De La Cruz are under consideration. Top prospect Spencer Jones is unlikely to be promoted, as he’s not on the 40-man roster and is currently sidelined with back spasms.
