An inmate at the Steuben County Jail has been charged with felony assault after allegedly attacking a correction officer, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael A. Cragg Jr., 43, of South Maple Street in Corning, was arrested on July 20 after deputies responded to a report of an assault inside the jail. Authorities say Cragg struck a correction officer in the face, causing injury.
Cragg, who was already incarcerated at the time, has been charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony. He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded back to the Steuben County Jail.
The injured officer was treated at a local medical facility and released.
