Cayuga County will relocate its main data center to Auburn’s fire station after asbestos was found in its closed downtown office building, according to The Citizen.
The county will lease space from the city for $2,480 annually to protect sensitive systems including public safety communications and financial data. The move is expected to cost $343,000 in total.
Officials say the fire station offers safer, uninterrupted access as tests confirmed contamination risks in the building’s basement, where the county’s IT infrastructure was previously housed.
