Yankees stumble into All-Star break with second straight loss to Cubs (highlights)

The New York Yankees wrapped up the first half of their season on a sour note, falling to the Chicago Cubs 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx and losing two of three in the series.

New York’s bats were nearly silent, managing just two hits all game. Giancarlo Stanton briefly provided life with a solo home run in the second inning to tie the game, but that was the last real threat the Yankees would mount. Austin Wells singled to open the sixth, but a double play from Paul Goldschmidt erased the opportunity.

Will Warren took the mound and struggled to find rhythm early, giving up a leadoff homer to Michael Busch in the first. Warren battled through traffic in multiple innings but kept the Cubs to two runs across 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and three walks with one strikeout. Ian Hamilton replaced him in the sixth and immediately surrendered a two-run home run to Dansby Swanson that put the Yankees behind for good.

Chicago tacked on another run in the seventh off Tim Hill after Seiya Suzuki doubled and Pete Crow-Armstrong drove him home.

Meanwhile, Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga dominated, retiring the final 16 Yankees he faced over seven innings.
