Auburn City Council will hold its regularly scheduled, weekly meeting later today at City Hall with infrastructure and public service projects on the agenda.
Council will vote on awarding a $509,264.34 contract to Casinella Excavating, LLC for the reconstruction and realignment of the intersection at Standart Avenue and North Street. The project includes resurfacing, curb and sidewalk replacements, updated traffic signals, signage, and drainage improvements. The work is being fully reimbursed through the New York State Department of Transportation’s State Touring Routes Program, which provided more than $2.1 million to the city for road repairs.
City engineers reviewed the four bids received on July 1 and recommended Casinella Excavating, the lowest bidder. The company’s proposal came in approximately 14% below the estimated cost prepared by design consultants C&S Engineers, who confirmed the bid met all project requirements.
In a separate resolution, Council will consider awarding MJ Field Construction of Weedsport a $155,000 contract to renovate the Auburn Police Department’s cell block and office space. The proposed upgrades involve asbestos removal, replacement of 16 windows, and conversion of second-floor cell block and conference areas into office space. This project is part of the city’s 2021-2025 Capital Improvement Plan, funded through a previously approved bond ordinance.
The Council will also vote on a resolution to extend the city’s potable water supply agreement with the Cayuga County Water and Sewer Authority. The original 2003 agreement was previously set to terminate in January 2025, but both parties have agreed to a second one-year extension through December 31, 2026, to allow for continued negotiations on a new long-term deal. The extension preserves the current wholesale water rate and restricts the Authority from sourcing alternative water for customers who currently receive Auburn’s supply.
Additionally, the Council is expected to approve the reappointment of Tracy Verrier to a three-year term on the Auburn Historic Resources Review Board. Verrier’s previous term expired on June 1.
Rounding out the meeting, City Assessor Jeanne Hering is scheduled to deliver a presentation on revaluation. The session will also include standard items such as approval of minutes, public comment, and reports from Council members and the City Manager.
Thursday’s meeting will be livestreamed on the city’s Channel-A website here.
