Yankees place Mark Leiter Jr. on injured list, recall Clayton Beeter

The New York Yankees have placed right-handed reliever Mark Leiter Jr. on the injured list with a stress fracture in his left fibular head, an area near the knee joint.

Leiter said the injury occurred while covering first base during a game against the Cincinatti Reds on June 24 and there is currently no timeline for his return.

Despite tossing scoreless outings in his last two appearances, Leiter had been inconsistent recently, giving up runs in three of his previous five games.

To fill the roster spot, the Yankees recalled right-hander Clayton Beeter from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Beeter has made one MLB appearance this season, allowing three runs on three hits over 1.2 innings, with two walks and no strikeouts.
