Mike Brown set an ambitious tone Tuesday as he was introduced as the new head coach of the New York Knicks.
Speaking inside Madison Square Garden, Brown praised the franchise’s recent playoff run and made clear that anything short of an NBA championship would fall short of expectations.
“This is the Knicks,” he said. “I love and embrace the expectations that come with it. We have an outstanding roster, and I’m here to help us reach the ultimate goal.”
Brown, who replaced Tom Thibodeau after New York’s trip to the Eastern Conference finals, emphasized trust and daily improvement as the foundation of his coaching philosophy. He said conversations with players like Jalen Brunson have already begun to shape his plans for an up-tempo style built around versatility. “We can’t skip any steps,” Brown noted. “It’s about one day, one practice, one shootaround at a time.”
A two-time NBA Coach of the Year, Brown arrives with a résumé that includes Finals experience with Cleveland and championship pedigree from his time assisting in Golden State. He most recently led Sacramento back to the playoffs before his departure last season. “I’m sitting in the seat I want to be in,” he said.
