Sheriff urges caution after 3 fatal NY lake incidents

Three people have died in recent boating-related accidents on upstate New York lakes, prompting a renewed safety warning from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, according to Spectrum News. Two fatalities occurred on Great Sacandaga Lake, and one on Lake George over the July 4 weekend.

On July 6, a man drowned trying to rescue his girlfriend, unaware she had already been helped by nearby boaters. In a separate June 23 crash, 21-year-old Grace Clark died when her jet ski collided with a pontoon boat. Neither wore life vests.

Authorities stress the need for safe boating practices, including wearing life jackets, taking boating safety courses, and avoiding alcohol while on the water.
