Waterloo man charged after Monroe County police chase

A police chase across Monroe County ended at Roberts Wesleyan University after a suspect rammed into an officer’s vehicle and fled at high speed.

Deputies identified the suspect as 26-year-old Dejon Butler of Waterloo. He is charged with reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer, and reckless driving.

Police say Butler backed into a Rochester Police Department officer around 8 p.m. Wednesday at a gas station on North Clinton Avenue while trying to escape. The officer was not injured.

The pursuit spanned several towns as officers attempted to stop the vehicle. Authorities eventually used spike strips to slow Butler down and bring the chase to a close near the university.
