A man indicted on multiple child sex charges was arrested by Auburn police after being spotted during a routine patrol.
Donald R. Clarke II was taken into custody on June 25 while walking on Washington Street. According to the Auburn Police Department, Clarke was known to have an active indictment warrant for his arrest.
The charges stem from an October 2024 complaint alleging that Clarke repeatedly raped two children under the age of 15. Following a detailed investigation by the Detective Bureau, the case was presented to a Cayuga County Grand Jury.
In January, the Grand Jury indicted Clarke on the following charges:
- Sexual conduct against a child (Class B felony)
- Rape in the second degree (Class D felony, 4 counts)
- Criminal sex act in the second degree (Class D felony)
- Endangering the welfare of a child (Class A misdemeanor)
Police said Clarke had fled to New York City during the investigation but recently returned to the area. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Cayuga County Jail, where he awaits arraignment in Cayuga County Court.
