Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has reintroduced legislation to designate the week of June 23 as National Women’s Sports Week, marking the anniversary of the landmark Title IX legislation.
The resolution, introduced alongside Senator Joni Ernst, celebrates the progress of female athletes and aims to preserve equal access to sports for women and girls across the country.
“Women’s sports have empowered generations of female athletes to compete, lead, and break barriers,” said Tenney. “National Women’s Sports Week is an opportunity to honor that legacy and recommit to protecting equal opportunities for women and girls under Title IX.”
The resolution also highlights the impact of Title IX, which has led to a 990% increase in high school and 545% increase in college female sports participation since its passage in 1972.
“Every girl deserves a level playing field — one based on biology, not ideology — where she has every opportunity to compete and win,” said Ernst.
Co-sponsors of the resolution include Representatives Randy Weber, Nancy Mace, and Ralph Norman.
