A former student will soon take the reins at A.J. Smith Elementary, according to The Citizen. Meghan Mennerich has been named principal of the Union Springs school and will begin her role on July 1.
Mennerich, who has lived in Union Springs since fourth grade and has three children in the district, was most recently assistant principal at Casey Park Elementary in Auburn. The school board approved her four-year probationary appointment with a $101,000 salary for the 2025–26 school year.
She said she’s eager to help guide the district’s youngest learners and bring a full-spectrum perspective as both an educator and a parent involved at all levels.
