Firefighters respond to house fire on Hillview Drive in Cayuga County

Firefighters from several Cayuga County departments responded to a house fire on Hillview Drive after a caller reported flames and smoke inside the home, according to updates from Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire.

A Union Springs firefighter reported smoke showing on arrival. Crews entered the house, and an initial search found no occupants.

However, first responders noted that a number of animals died in the fire.

Union Springs, Cayuga, Aurora and Aurelius firefighters were dispatched, along with Southern Cayuga Ambulance.

Owasco was assigned as the rapid intervention team, while Fleming crews later stood by at the Union Springs station.

Fire command warned crews inside the home about hoarding conditions, according to the updates.

Auburn fire investigators were expected to respond. Crews were still working at the scene at the two-hour mark.

The cause of the fire, extent of the damage and whether anyone was injured were not immediately known.
