Lansing man falsely reported Cayuga County incident, sheriff says

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Lansing man for falsely reporting an incident after an investigation into a 911 call made earlier this month.

Gavin T. Rushlow, 20, was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree, a Class A misdemeanor, following an incident on June 17, 2025, in the Town of Locke.

According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, Rushlow called 911 around 4:16 p.m. and reported that he had seen a vehicle being operated erratically, claiming he knew the driver and saw them consuming alcohol. Minutes later, the alleged driver contacted 911, stating that Rushlow was harassing him.

Deputies investigated both calls and determined that Rushlow’s report was false. He was arrested around 6:12 p.m. that same evening and issued an appearance ticket to return to Locke Town Court on July 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office at 315-253-1222 or submit a tip anonymously through the county’s website or SaferWatch app.
