Wayne County group awards scholarships to young racial justice leaders

Wayne Action for Racial Equality (W.A.R.E.) has announced the 2025 recipients of the Timothy Barber Scholarship, supporting Black high school seniors who promote equality and oppose racism, according to WayneTimes.com.

This year’s awardees include Jayvyn Burnell of Williamson, Hayden Wright of Lyons, and Honestee Jones of Williamson. Burnell, a tech and civic leader, is heading to RIT; Wright, a youth mentor and FFA member, plans to study liberal arts at FLCC; and Jones, aspiring to work in women’s health, will attend Monroe Community College.

Each student has demonstrated a commitment to social impact and community building through education, service, and leadership.
