The Newark Village Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building’s second-floor courtroom, with a full agenda covering public safety, community engagement, and administrative updates.
Trustees will consider a resolution supporting community safety initiatives and are expected to vote on a fundraiser for the family of Zy’jar from Rochester, scheduled for June 22 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Perkins Park. The board will also review a proposal to waive garage sale permits for the annual “Treasures Along the Erie” event, taking place August 1–3.
Police matters include consideration of Eric Minisce for promotion to sergeant and approval for Officer Jacob Jackson to attend criminal debriefing training in Rochester from July 7 to 9 at no cost. Additionally, the WWTP Chief Operator is proposing a $250 high-strength waste surcharge to be added to septic hauler agreements when they renew on September 1.
The board will also address routine business, including approval of previous meeting minutes, payment of June vouchers, and designation of Trustee Blodgett to approve July vouchers. Departmental updates are expected from the fire chief, code enforcement officer, economic development office, village clerk-treasurer, legal counsel, and trustees.
Zoning Board Grants Variances for Walmart Expansion
At its June 9 meeting, the Village of Newark Zoning Board of Appeals approved two area variances for Walmart’s proposed 3,375-square-foot expansion at 6788 NYS Route 31. Represented by Justin Lattierre of Colliers Engineering & Design, Walmart received approvals to reduce parking space dimensions to 10 by 18 feet—below the village standard of 9 by 19 feet—and to install a 42-foot light pole, exceeding the 20-foot height limit.
The board declared itself lead agency under SEQRA, issued a negative declaration, and approved both variances unanimously. No public objections were raised, and both the Wayne County Planning Board and Village Planning Board recommended approval.
