A 27-year-old Alfred man is facing murder charges after police say he fatally stabbed another man inside a motel room earlier this week.
State Police arrested Briar A. York on Thursday in connection with the death of 32-year-old Sean M. Dawson, also of Alfred.
Troopers responded to the Economy Inn on Route 244 around 10:22 a.m. Thursday to check on Dawson and found him dead from multiple stab wounds. Investigators say York had visited Dawson on August 19, and during a conversation about Dawson’s sex offender registry status, York became violent and attacked him.
Police say York then tried to clean the scene to hide evidence.
York was processed at SP Amity and taken to the Allegany County Jail for arraignment. The investigation is ongoing.
The case is being handled with help from the NYSP Forensic Identification Unit, Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, Village of Alfred Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Allegany County Coroner.
