New legislation in New York aims to make fentanyl education mandatory in all schools, according to Spectrum News. The bill, introduced by Republican Assemblyman Robert Smullen, would create a statewide program to raise awareness among students about the deadly risks of the synthetic opioid.
Smullen, whose son died in a traffic accident, partnered with Greg Swan of FentanylFathers.org to push the proposal. They hope early education will help prevent accidental overdoses, especially among children unknowingly taking counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl and other dangerous additives.
The bill mandates implementation across public, charter, and private schools, marking a proactive response to the evolving drug crisis in New York.
