A Norwich man is behind bars after a series of alleged crimes that escalated into a violent confrontation with police, according to WBNG. Authorities say the man was wanted for multiple incidents earlier this month, including stealing vehicle keys from a local business and a grand larceny reported on July 2.
The suspect, identified as Balcom, was found with help from Sherburne Police. When detectives attempted to arrest him, he fled and reportedly fought with officers, injuring one Norwich detective. That officer is now recovering.
Balcom, who has prior convictions in Florida for similar behavior, faces several charges including second-degree assault, resisting arrest, grand larceny, conspiracy, and obstruction. He was arraigned in Chenango County Court and is being held without bail.
