Brad Marchand scored on a breakaway 8:04 into double overtime on Friday night, lifting the Florida Panthers to a 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Marchand, who finished with two goals, helped Florida split the first two games in Edmonton after Corey Perry tied it with 17.8 seconds left in regulation.
The Panthers rallied behind strong goaltending from Sergei Bobrovsky, who made 42 saves, and a relentless second-period surge capped by Dmitry Kulikov’s equalizer through traffic. Sam Bennett netted his playoff-leading 13th goal, while Seth Jones finished a dazzling passing sequence for another tally. Marchand’s overtime goal was his 10th in a Stanley Cup Final, the most among active players.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl showcased their star power for Edmonton, combining to assist on Evan Bouchard’s power-play goal.
The back-to-back overtime thrillers mark the first such start to a Final since 2014.
Game 3 is set for Monday night in Sunrise at 8 p.m.
