Driver charged with felony DWI after erratic driving in Throop

Cayuga County deputies arrested a Throop man Sunday after responding to reports of a pickup truck swerving along State Street Road, ultimately charging him with felony-level driving while intoxicated.

The driver, identified as 63-year-old Shawn W. McCormick, was taken into custody shortly after 4:00 p.m. on June 1. According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed McCormick commit multiple traffic violations before initiating a stop. He was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated and provided a breath sample showing a blood alcohol concentration of 0.25%.


McCormick faces charges of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Prior Conviction and Driving While Intoxicated – Previous Conviction, both classified as E felonies. He also faces other traffic infractions.

Following his arrest, McCormick was processed at the Public Safety Building and later appeared before CAP court the same evening. He was released on his own recognizance with a future appearance scheduled in Town of Throop Court.
