The New York Mets (35-22) opened their weekend series against the Colorado Rockies (9-48) with a solid all-around effort, taking the opener 4-2 on Friday night at Citi Field.

David Peterson delivered another strong outing on the mound. The lefty held Colorado to one run over 5.2 innings, striking out five while allowing five hits and walking just one. Though he came just shy of completing six shutout frames, allowing an RBI double with two outs in the sixth, Peterson once again gave the Mets exactly what they needed. Huascar Brazobán entered in relief and stranded two runners to preserve the lead.

Francisco Lindor led the way offensively and defensively. The shortstop set the tone with a leadoff homer in the first inning and later added a clutch defensive play in the third, leaping to snag a line drive that likely saved two runs. Lindor added a single and capped off his three-hit night with a solo home run in the eighth that extended the Mets’ lead to 4-2.

Juan Soto added an RBI double in the third, while Starling Marte’s solo blast in the fourth provided key insurance.

Kodai Senga takes the mound Saturday at 4:10 p.m. as the Mets look to secure a series win over the dreadful Rockies.
