A man was arrested in Auburn following a late-night disturbance at a State Street bar that escalated into a physical confrontation with police.

Officers responded to the scene on May 25 after receiving reports of an unwanted guest causing problems and refusing to leave. The man, later identified as Christopher Bell, allegedly became combative when police attempted to remove him from the premises, according to a media release issued by Sgt. J. Turner of the Auburn Police Department.

Police said Bell was uncooperative when approached and attempted to flee through a back door into a fenced area. When officers tried to restrain him, Bell reportedly turned and took a fighting stance, prompting an altercation that led to him being tased and taken into custody.

During the incident, Bell is accused of damaging property inside the bar and injuring one of the responding officers.

He was charged with second-degree assault (felony), second-degree obstruction of governmental administration (misdemeanor), and trespass (violation). Bell was processed and transported to the Cayuga County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
