The New York Mets (34-21) extended their win streak to four games on Tuesday night, outlasting the Chicago White Sox (17-38) 6-4 at Citi Field behind early fireworks and clutch pitching.
After Chicago struck first with a two-run homer off Tylor Megill in the opening frame, New York roared back in the bottom half. With two outs, the Mets strung together six consecutive hits, capped by two-run home runs from Pete Alonso and Jared Young to grab a 4-2 lead. The blast was Alonso’s 11th of the season and marked Young’s first MLB hit since last October.
Megill settled in after the shaky start, grinding through 5.2 innings of two-run ball, striking out six. José Butto escaped a sixth-inning jam with help from a stellar running grab by Jeff McNeil but gave up a pair in the seventh. José Castillo and Reed Garrett combined to shut the door from there, with Garrett recording his second save of the season.
The offense cooled off after the early outburst, but key two-out hits from McNeil, Francisco Alvarez, and Francisco Lindor in the eighth added a crucial insurance run. Brett Baty also stayed hot, collecting two more hits and scoring twice.
Now 21-6 at home, the Mets will look to complete the sweep of the White Sox on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m.
