Seneca County to vote on emergency jail medical contract Tuesday

  • Staff Report

The Seneca County Board of Supervisors will convene a special meeting on Tuesday, May 27, to vote on an emergency contract that would appoint a new medical director for the county jail. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Seneca County Office Building in Waterloo.

Board to consider $108K contract with Dr. Marshall Trabout

At the center of the agenda is a resolution that would authorize an emergency contract with Dr. Marshall Trabout to provide medical director and physician services at the Seneca County Correctional Facility through the end of 2025. The contract totals $108,000.

The proposal comes after the recent resignation of the facility’s previous medical director, leaving a gap in services required under New York State Commission of Correction regulations. The Sheriff’s Office reviewed proposals from three candidates, selecting Dr. Trabout based on cost and relevant correctional healthcare experience.

According to the resolution, Dr. Trabout’s proposal was more competitive than one costlier bid and more qualified than another lacking jail experience. The county attorney has reviewed and approved the contract language, and the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee has recommended its passage following a review on May 13.

If approved, Board Chairman Michael Enslow will be authorized to sign the agreement and oversee necessary budgetary adjustments via the county Finance Department.
