The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is urging local boaters to get certified before hitting the water this season.
As of this year, New York State requires all boaters to obtain a Boater Safety Certificate. In response, the Sheriff’s Office is hosting a New York State Boater Safety Course to help residents comply with the new law.
The certification course costs only $10 and is open for registration online at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/229474. The department advises participants to act quickly before boating season fully begins.
“Be safe, be legal, and enjoy the water!” the announcement reads.
