A pre-dawn pursuit that crossed county lines ended with the arrest of an Auburn man weeks after he allegedly fled from deputies during a domestic violence investigation.
Terrance D. Dexter was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree and issued multiple traffic tickets following his May 10 arrest, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The charges stem from a March incident when deputies were alerted around 4:30 a.m. to a physical domestic dispute in the City of Auburn. The suspect, later identified as Dexter, reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle headed north. Deputies located the vehicle traveling east on Turnpike Road, passing North Street Road in Sennett.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, Dexter refused to pull over and continued driving east on Grant Avenue Road into Onondaga County. Authorities said multiple agencies tried to intercept him using Stop Sticks and intersection blockades, but all attempts failed. The pursuit was terminated after he entered Syracuse due to safety concerns.
Dexter was taken into custody at 12:07 a.m. on May 10 and formally charged. He was also cited for reckless driving under Vehicle and Traffic Law 1212. He was processed and appeared at CAP Court that morning, where he was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear in Sennett Town Court on May 14 at 6:00 p.m.
The Sheriff’s Office encouraged anyone with information about the incident to call 315-253-1222 or submit anonymous tips through the county website or SaferWatch app.
