Kentucky residents affected by the April 2 storms—including tornadoes, straight-line winds, landslides, and mudslides—may be eligible for FEMA assistance even if they have insurance coverage. Survivors in 13 declared counties have until June 25, 2025, to submit their FEMA application.
FEMA aid may apply even if you have insurance
While FEMA cannot duplicate insurance payments, you can still qualify for assistance in several situations:
- Your insurance settlement is delayed more than 30 days.
- Insurance coverage does not fully address your losses or repair needs.
- You’ve exhausted your policy’s additional living expenses (ALE) benefits.
- You can’t find suitable temporary housing in your area.
These gaps can make FEMA aid critical—even for those who are insured.
Eligible counties in Kentucky
Residents of the following counties are eligible to apply for FEMA disaster assistance:
- Anderson
- Butler
- Carroll
- Christian
- Clark
- Franklin

If you live in one of these counties and were affected by the April 2 disaster, you should submit your FEMA application promptly.
How to apply for FEMA assistance
There are multiple ways to submit your FEMA application:
- Online: Visit DisasterAssistance.gov
- In person: Find a nearby Disaster Recovery Center at fema.gov/DRC or text
DRCand your ZIP Code to 43362 (example: “DRC 40601”) - Mobile app: Use the FEMA mobile app on your smartphone
- By phone: Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362, available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET. Language support is available.
If you use a relay service (such as VRS or captioned phone), provide FEMA with your assigned service number.
Apply separately if affected by multiple disasters
If your home was damaged in both February and April 2025, you must file separate FEMA applications for each event. This is especially relevant for homeowners and renters in Woodford County, which was impacted by both disasters.
FEMA application deadline and resources
The deadline to apply for April 2 disaster aid is June 25, 2025. Missing this deadline could mean losing access to vital federal resources.
