PETA truck stirs controversy near Elmira pizza shop

PETA’s “Hell on Wheels” truck parked near Pudgie’s Pizza in Elmira Thursday, broadcasting chicken cries and displaying graphic images to highlight animal cruelty in the meat industry.

The truck wasn’t directly outside the pizzeria but close enough to draw attention. Pudgie’s owner Robert Cleary criticized the non-local group, calling it unfair to target a longtime community business. PETA insists the campaign is about promoting veganism, not attacking individual restaurants.

The truck tour continues this week with planned stops in Binghamton, Syracuse, Watertown, Utica, and beyond.
