Firefighters in Cheshire are preparing to launch a new rescue boat aimed at improving emergency response on Canandaigua Lake as the busy summer season approaches.

The vessel, named Cheshire Marine 4, was purchased at the end of 2024 and will officially hit the water on May 1, according to a statement from the Cheshire Fire Department.
“This boat represents a major step forward in our ability to respond quickly and effectively on the water,” said Fire Chief Chris Brown. “It’s not just about the technology—it’s about being ready to serve and protect everyone who enjoys Canandaigua Lake.”
Cheshire Volunteer Firefighters have already begun intensive training on the boat’s systems, which include advanced navigation and pump operations. The department plans to train several days a week and will staff the vessel on high-traffic days and weekends throughout the summer.
Jared Simpson, Town Supervisor for the Town of Canandaigua, praised the investment in lake safety. “This new rescue boat will be so helpful to everyone who enjoys our lake. As lake traffic increases, so does the need for coverage,” Simpson said.
Officials say the boat will play a critical role in water rescues and reinforce the department’s mission to protect both residents and visitors.
