Progressive Insurance recently agreed to a $43 million settlement after allegations it delayed claim payments between 2020 and 2022. Now, many current and former customers are wondering: Will I receive money from the settlement?

Here’s what you need to know about eligibility, the claims process, and how to confirm your status.

Who qualifies for a payment?

The settlement covers auto insurance customers who filed claims with Progressive between 2020 and 2022. Eligibility is based on whether a claim payment was delayed beyond a reasonable time after the accident or incident occurred.

Customers may qualify if they:

  • Filed a claim between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2022
  • Experienced unusual or excessive delays in payment
  • Had an active Progressive policy during that period

Specific eligibility details are still being finalized by the settlement administrator.

How to check your eligibility

Progressive has indicated that direct notices will be sent to affected customers by mail or email once the settlement is finalized in court. Customers can take the following steps to verify their status:

  • Check your email and mail: Look for official notices from Progressive or the settlement administrator.
  • Log into your Progressive account: Review your claims history for 2020–2022 and check for updates about the settlement.
  • Contact Progressive customer service: Call or message Progressive to inquire about your eligibility.
  • Visit the settlement website: A dedicated claims portal will launch soon to help users check eligibility and file claims if necessary.

If you believe you are eligible but do not receive a notice, you may still be able to submit a claim manually once the portal opens.

What happens if you qualify?

Most qualifying customers will not need to take any action. Eligible policyholders may receive automatic payments once the settlement is approved and processed.

The amount each person receives will vary based on:

  • The severity of the claim delay
  • Policy details and coverage limits
  • The total number of eligible claimants

Payouts are expected to begin later in 2025, depending on final court approval timelines.

What if you don’t hear anything?

If you do not receive a notice by mail or email, it does not automatically mean you are ineligible. It could be due to outdated contact information or other issues.

To protect yourself:

  • Always verify communications are legitimate.
  • Do not click on links in unsolicited emails claiming to offer settlement payments.
  • Only use official Progressive or court-approved websites for claim submissions.

If you believe you should qualify but have not been contacted, follow updates at Progressive’s official website or the court’s settlement administrator portal when it becomes available.
