The Clyde-Galen Fire District gathered earlier this month to honor the dedication and service of its members during the department’s annual Ladies Night Banquet.
Held on April 12 at the Wayne Hills Country Club, the celebration recognized the tireless efforts of volunteer firefighters who commit countless hours to responding to emergencies, completing training, and fulfilling department duties.
“It was a great evening with lots of laughs,” the department said in a statement. Multiple awards were presented, including a special tribute to Chief Joseph Tavano Jr., who received a Certificate of Appreciation for 16 years of leadership as District Chief. Though Tavano could not attend the event, the evening concluded with a surprise visit to deliver the honor in person.
Top training awards went to Colton Rice, Cory Haig, and Cory Forjone. Rice also led the department in emergency responses for the year, followed by Christopher Reed and Forjone. Forjone was named Firefighter of the Year.
Service milestones were also celebrated. Clyde Dora was recognized for 45 years of service. Steve Lawson and Benny Lee Sr. marked 35 years, Amy Lawson reached 25 years, while Chad Ace and Matt Sharp were honored for a decade of service. Ken Kise received recognition for five years of commitment.
The department extended thanks to Wayne Hills for hosting the event and to Savannah Fire for covering the district during the dinner. Officials also acknowledged the support of neighboring departments, local police, emergency services, government representatives, and community partners who attended.
