David West is moving on. The city of Geneva’s director of planning and economic development will resign from his post next month, according to an announcement from City Manager Amie Hendrix.
West, who has led the department since 2023, accepted a position outside the city and will officially depart on May 21. His exit marks the end of a tenure defined by efforts to expand housing options and secure key grants supporting infrastructure, small businesses, and homeowners.
“David has been a core member of our leadership team,” said Hendrix. “We are thankful for the positive impact he has had on Geneva.” She credited West for playing a key role in the city’s growth and development strategy during his time in office.
The city has launched a search for West’s successor and will refine the role’s responsibilities during the transition. Until a replacement is found, current department staff will share his duties.
Reflecting on his departure, West said it was an honor to serve the community.
“I am proud of the talented City staff, especially those in Planning & Economic Development, and what we have accomplished together,” he said. “I know that positive things will continue to flow from our achievements.”
West also pledged to remain a vocal supporter of the city and its “bold Uniquely Urban vision.”
