  • Staff Report

A Steuben County woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly using another person’s food stamp benefits over a three-day period last December.

Kayla A. Swift, 25, of Colonial Lawns in Bath, was arrested on April 16 by investigators from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. She is currently being held in the Steuben County Jail.

According to Sheriff Jim Allard, Swift is accused of unlawfully using a benefit card issued by the Steuben County Department of Social Services between December 1 and December 3. Investigators allege that Swift obtained public assistance she was neither entitled to nor authorized to receive.

Swift has been charged with Misuse of Food Stamps, Petit Larceny, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, a class E felony. She is scheduled for arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Court and will remain in custody pending further proceedings.

Sheriff Allard credited the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, the Village of Bath Police Department, and the District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
