Union Springs Announces Yard Waste Pickup Guidelines for Spring and Summer

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Village of Union Springs has released updated yard waste pickup guidelines for residents, outlining seasonal services and important disposal rules for brush, leaves, and grass clippings.

According to the announcement, brush pickup will run from April through October on the third Tuesday of each month, weather permitting. Brush must be neatly piled perpendicular to the road—between the sidewalk and the street—and cannot be placed directly on pavement or sidewalks. Only branches with a maximum diameter of 4 inches and maximum length of 5 feet will be accepted.

Christmas trees will be collected and chipped on the third Tuesday of January. The village may also schedule additional pickups after storms, with notices posted on its website and Facebook page.

Residents are reminded that the service is strictly for brush trimmings, not for the removal of entire trees. Trees cut down by contractors or residents must be disposed of independently.

For leaf and grass pickup, residents must use paper biodegradable bags available at local home improvement stores. The service will take place every Monday, weather permitting. Bags over 50 pounds or any use of plastic bags will not be accepted.

Officials emphasize that leaves should not be raked into the street, as even light rainfall can cause drainage problems.
