Stefanik Eyes 2026 Run for NY Governor

Rep. Elise Stefanik is weighing a 2026 bid for New York governor, according to NY1. Speaking at a Republican gala in Manhattan, Stefanik said she’s honored to be considered among potential candidates and slammed Democratic leadership for what she described as the state’s decline.

The North Country congresswoman recently made headlines after her United Nations ambassador nomination by Donald Trump was pulled. She has since resumed her role as House GOP Conference Chair and was honored by the state party for her loyalty to Trump.

Stefanik believes the GOP has a rare chance to reclaim the governor’s office and make legislative gains in Albany. Her name also surfaced in 2022, but the nomination ultimately went to Lee Zeldin, who narrowly lost to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
