Canastota Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Drug Conspiracy and Firearm Offense

  • Staff Report

A Canastota man will spend the next five years in federal prison for running a drug distribution operation with his wife and illegally possessing firearms.

Andrew Snyder, 46, was sentenced Tuesday to 60 months behind bars after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and a heroin/fentanyl mixture, and for possessing firearms while unlawfully using drugs.

According to federal prosecutors, Snyder and his wife, Jessica Snyder, sold drugs out of the garage of their Madison County home from October 2020 to May 17, 2022. Investigators say the couple trafficked both methamphetamine and a heroin/fentanyl blend during that period.

On May 17, 2022, authorities found Snyder in possession of two 9mm handguns and ammunition while he was actively using controlled substances, including methamphetamine.

In addition to his prison term, Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes ordered Snyder to serve four years of supervised release once he completes his sentence.

Jessica Snyder is scheduled to be sentenced on April 24.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the Drug Enforcement Administration and New York State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas R. Sutcliffe and Matthew J. McCrobie prosecuted the case.
