The New York State Thruway had its best year yet in 2024, generating $1.1 billion in revenue—surpassing the billion-dollar mark for the first time, driven largely by toll hikes and a rebound in passenger traffic.
More than 338 million passenger vehicles used the highway, finally topping pre-pandemic levels. Truck traffic, however, remained flat and declined 3% at the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, prompting an ongoing review by Thruway officials.
The funds will fuel a $2.7 billion infrastructure upgrade plan, already underway with major bridge and road projects across the state.
