Auburn school board member Freddie Wilson III has stepped down due to health concerns, according to The Citizen. Elected in 2023 for a three-year term, Wilson’s departure leaves the board weighing how to handle his now-vacant seat.
Initially leaning toward a temporary appointment, the board is reconsidering after learning that state law would require the appointee to vacate the role by May’s election. That means the interim member would serve for just three meetings.
Wilson’s seat will now likely be filled alongside three other board positions in the upcoming May 20 election.
