No. 16 Saint Joseph’s controlled the game from the start, defeating Hobart 15-7 on Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field. The Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed.
Hobart was led by seniors John Jude Considine and Will Delano, who each scored twice. Sophomore Mike Valent stood out at the faceoff X, winning 14-of-20 draws and collecting a game-high eight ground balls. Jackson Faiola and Elhanan Wilson combined for 12 saves in net.
Saint Joseph’s graduate students Richie LaCalandra and Ben Dutton fueled the Hawks’ offense. LaCalandra tallied eight points (four goals, four assists), while Dutton added five goals and an assist. The Hawks, ranked among the nation’s best in caused turnovers, added 17 more in the win.
Delano’s two second-quarter goals helped Hobart chip away before Daniel Cano and Alex Rosa found the net later in the half. Rosa’s man-down goal, his team-leading 20th, was his second of the season, a rare feat in Hobart’s Division I history.
Hobart’s final three goals came in the third, all with Considine involved, but Saint Joseph’s defense clamped down in the fourth, allowing just three Hobart shots.
The Statesmen (3-9) return home to host St. Bonaventure on Senior Day, Saturday, April 19.
