The Village of Lansing’s Climate Smart Communities Task Force released two new reports aimed at cutting waste and improving municipal energy use. The reports support Lansing’s effort to earn a bronze-level certification through New York’s climate program, according to village officials.
Since 2019, the village office has cut greenhouse gas emissions and energy use by nearly 24%, while other buildings have seen similar declines. The reports also guide residents on composting food scraps and repairing household items to reduce landfill waste.
These steps mark progress toward state-supported climate goals, which open access to grants, technical help, and clean energy incentives. Lansing officials hope certification will strengthen resilience and lower long-term municipal costs.
