Cayuga County’s Health and Human Services Department will move into new downtown Auburn office space to replace its asbestos-affected facility. The $29,000-per-month rental will offer improved conditions for essential workers long displaced by building issues.
Vice Chair Heidi Nightengale said the move restores dignity for staff like child welfare and protective services workers, who’ve been operating in cramped, scattered locations. The state is expected to reimburse nearly half the rent and utility costs.
Operations are set to begin this spring, with private security contracted for the new site.
