New York is rolling out stricter firearm regulations in a bid to curb gun violence, according to advocates. Three new laws target gun modification tools, bulk purchases, and transparency for buyers. One measure bans the use of devices that convert pistols to shoot faster. Another requires warnings about gun risks at the point of sale.
A separate law tracks high-volume sales of firearms and ammo, while another seeks to hold manufacturers like Glock accountable for not preventing illegal modifications. Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon pushed the latter as a national first.
Governor Kathy Hochul highlighted a statewide drop in shootings, citing a 53% decrease compared to early 2022, and pledged to invest more in community anti-violence initiatives.
