Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez holds a commanding early lead over Sen. Chuck Schumer in a potential 2028 New York Democratic primary, according to a new poll by liberal group Data for Progress.
The survey found 55% of likely Democratic voters prefer Ocasio-Cortez, while just 36% back Schumer. The results reflect frustration over Schumer’s recent support for a GOP-backed funding bill and growing calls from the left for more aggressive opposition to former President Trump.
Despite her strong polling, Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t confirmed a Senate run. Schumer, meanwhile, has filed for reelection and maintains control over his Senate caucus despite pressure from progressive groups.
