New York’s home health care sector is growing at a staggering pace, with the workforce expanding by 10 percent in just one year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
From 2023 to 2024, the state added 57,000 home health and personal care aide jobs, pushing the total to 623,000—more than any other state. That’s 171 aides per 1,000 seniors, the highest ratio in the country. These aides, mostly paid through Medicaid, now account for nearly 40 percent of all new jobs statewide and outnumber retail workers by more than two to one.
New York’s broader health care sector also surged, with a 7 percent job increase. Most of that growth came from lower-paid support roles, while registered nurses saw a 9 percent gain.
