Ontario County Democrats issue statement of support on Transgender Day of Visibility

The Ontario County Democratic Committee marked Transgender Day of Visibility on Monday with a public statement celebrating transgender and gender-diverse individuals while calling for greater action against discrimination.

The committee’s message highlighted growing concerns over anti-trans rhetoric and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting transgender residents and their families. Leaders emphasized the importance of inclusion, respect, and policy advocacy.

“We stand in solidarity with transgender and gender-diverse individuals and their families, celebrating their strength, resilience, and contributions to our community,” the committee said in the statement.

The message acknowledged the challenges transgender people often face, including discrimination, violence, and lack of access to basic rights. It called for a collective effort to ensure that all individuals—regardless of gender identity—can live authentically and safely.

The committee encouraged the public to use respectful language and avoid assumptions about anyone’s gender identity. It also voiced support for laws and policies that protect transgender rights and pledged to back organizations that advance their well-being.

The group further invited transgender and gender-diverse individuals to engage directly in local leadership. “We welcome transgender and gender-diverse individuals who wish to join us in our mission, to run for local office, and accept leadership roles in our organization,” the statement read.

The committee concluded with a call for unity in building a community free from discrimination and prejudice.
