Auburn nurse admits to stealing from hospital patients

An Auburn nurse has pleaded guilty to identity theft after stealing credit cards from patients at a Syracuse hospital and must now give up her nursing license and repay over $9,000.

Kelly Churney, charged with first-degree identity theft, admitted to taking cards while working as a travel nurse at Upstate Community Hospital. Originally tied to $2,300 in theft, further investigation uncovered an additional $7,000 in fraud. She’ll serve five years’ probation, including six months in jail.

As part of her sentence, Churney must surrender her license to prevent future access to vulnerable individuals, prosecutors said.
