A Red Jacket Middle School student is headed to one of the nation’s most prestigious academic competitions after spelling his way to victory in a regional contest.
Eighth grader Reed Laursen won the Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday at the Palmyra-Macedon Performing Arts Center, earning a place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee this May in National Harbor, Maryland.
Laursen qualified for the regional round by winning the Red Jacket Spelling Bee on March 7. His recent win secures him a spot on the national stage, where he will face top spellers from across the country in pursuit of the Scripps Cup.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the largest and longest-running educational competition in the United States. It attracts students from all 50 states and around the world. Organizers describe it as a celebration of language, learning, and perseverance.
Laursen’s achievement follows months of preparation and highlights his dedication to academic excellence.
