Keuka College will cap off its inaugural Career Week with “Salute to Service,” a daylong event on March 28 that will introduce students to careers in law enforcement, emergency response, and the military.
The event, hosted by the College’s Center for Experiential Learning and Career Engagement in collaboration with Criminal Justice Instructor Mike Smith, aims to provide job, networking, and experiential learning opportunities for students considering careers as first responders or in criminal justice fields.
“This event will provide job, networking, and experiential learning opportunities for Criminal Justice majors and other Keuka College students who are pursuing or considering careers in law enforcement or as first responders,” said Career Engagement Facilitator Erin Brewer. “It will also facilitate opportunities for students interested in volunteering as first responders in their communities.”
A highlight of the event will be live demonstrations showcasing key law enforcement and emergency-response skills, including K-9 unit operations, forensic investigation, drone surveillance, accident reconstruction, and fire safety exercises. While some law enforcement personnel will be in full duty gear and armed per safety protocols, no live ammunition will be discharged, and all demonstrations will adhere to local, state, and campus safety guidelines.
In addition to first responders, military representatives will be on hand to discuss service opportunities and provide information on how the GI Bill can assist with educational costs. Students interested in the military will also learn about career paths for Reservists and active-duty service members after graduation.
The “Salute to Service” event is the finale of Keuka College’s first-ever Career Week, which runs from March 24-28 and features a range of career fairs, networking sessions, and graduate school preparation events.
