Dustin Carnes elected mayor of Odessa

  • Staff Report

Dustin Carnes won the Odessa mayoral race with 52 votes, defeating Dan Heichel (35), Kathy Wilkens (26), and Ron Greschler (10). He will take office on April 1, replacing retiring Mayor Gerry Messmer.

The election comes just months after concerns about not having enough candidates to even continue village operations.

Cindy Emerson (95 votes) and write-in candidate William Horner (11 votes) won trustee seats, succeeding Tom Letteer and Kristine Gardner. Village Justice Ronald Goossen was re-elected unopposed with 117 votes.

With 123 ballots cast, about a third of Odessa’s registered voters participated in the election. Carnes and the new trustees will begin their terms next month.
